Glo gives out N28bn free airtime to subscribers

Telecommunications company, Globacom, on Monday said about seven million subscribers had signed up to its ongoing ‘Overload Reloaded’ promotion and had benefitted from over N27.5bn worth of bonus airtime since the commencement of the promo.

The telecoms company said the subscribers were those who joined the promo platform by dialing its special code *200# and reloading their phones with airtime of N200 denomination or higher.

Globacom introduced the Overload promo late last year alongside some other promotions with the sole aim of exciting and delighting its customers.

In January, the promo was relaunched as Glo Overload Reloaded with additional benefits such as expanded bonus of 400 per cent bonus airtime for every recharge of N200 and above up from the 200 per cent bonus airtime initially given to customers for every recharge of N200 and above.

According to the information obtained from the company, a total of not less than N27m bonus airtime has been given out to Globacom customers so far.

“The Overload Reloaded promo rewards any subscriber who recharges his or her phones with airtime of N200 denomination and above with five times the value of their recharges. For instance, anyone who loads N200 receives a total value of N1000 automatically,” Globacom said in a statement.

It says that similarly, any airtime recharge of N500 gives the subscriber N2,500 airtime value; N1000 gives N5000; N2000 gives N10,000; while N5000 gives N25,000 value.

“The way the promo works, the customer is able to use his or her main credit to call any network at any time of the day. The bonus airtime could only be used for Glo to Glo calls and SMS between 10pm and 8am, depending on the validity period of the recharge denomination, ranging from two to 15 days.

“Globacom’s data subscribers are not left out of the largesse. A subscriber who spends N2,500 on data plan subscription or renewal automatically gets 4.5GB worth of data. Anyone who spends N5000 gets 12GB of data and anyone who spends N8000 on a data plan gets 24GB worth of data,” the company said.

It added that besides all these, subscribers on the Glo Overload Reloaded promo platform also had a chance to win N1m windfall.

It said that a total of 120 millionaires were expected to be produced while the promotion lasted, saying that 40 millionaires had already emerged and had been given their N1m cheques each, leaving a balance of 80 more winners to emerge before the expiration of the promotion.

Some subscribers spoken to expressed their excitement. One of them, Francis Oshin, an electrician, said the Glo Overload Reloaded promo was the best thing to happen to the telecoms sector in the country in recent times. According to him, the 400 per cent instant bonus for recharges of N200 and above is very useful, especially for people who make many calls.

Oshin also loves the idea of having a chance to win N1m by simply signing up and loading one’s phone.

He said he was one of the second set of 20 millionaires presented N1m each in Yaba in February. He said he had already told all his friends to buy Glo lines and sign up for the promotion to also have a chance to win a million naira.

Another subscriber, Mercy Oikelomen, a 400 level student of Economics, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, said, “Globacom has demonstrated that it cares about the people and is always ready to give back to the society. With this Overload promo, Glo has touched the lives of many Nigerians and I am proud to be a subscriber of the company.”
